Most knitwear does not wear out. It gets washed to death.

Our repair studio sees thousands of garments a year, and the pattern is consistent. Here is what we suggest instead.

  1. Wash less. Air a knit for a day before it goes in the machine. Wool rarely needs more than that.
  2. Fold, do not hang. Hangers stretch shoulders out of shape over time.
  3. Use a mesh bag. It stops the drum from pulling at the surface.
  4. Wash cold and slow. Heat is what makes fibres pill.
  5. Store with cedar. It keeps moths away without chemicals.

If something does go wrong, send it to us. Darning and re-knitting a cuff is faster than replacing a garment, and it is free for the first three years.
